UMX P3 Revolution BNF Basic Review

- Dang it looks cool

- Fuse is sturdy

- Lots of power w/ huge control surfaces

- Handy carrying case

- Perfect for lunchtime breaks to get that "RC" fix


- Weak wing cabanes

- Foam nose cone easily crushed

- Large handed people will break something off of the wings (cabana)

-some times I feel like I'm fighting AS3X


After charging the battery and setting up my radio, which E-flite expertly details in their manual I was ready to try this out (3 dual rate settings with a bit of expo, I added a little more expo in 100% throw). I don't have much time for flying these days, so all my nitro and gas planes are kind of on the back burner right now.  I do have time to charge a small batteries though, so I keep my radio and a couple of micros in my car.


The UMX P3 Revolution is a show stopper... especially when you are really, really close to it. The motor and control surfaces make this quite a performer. It will easily hold knife edge with a bit of throttle management to maintain altitude and will roll very quickly to the other side its almost as though it's on strings in one spot. It will do a flat spin upright but not inverted, I had a hard time keeping the nose from falling. It will harrier into the wind, and recovering from a flat spin after pulling hard and jamming the throttle makes it look like you just put the breaks on. AS3X... its a good thing, and a bad thing. In a hover AS3X will help keep that nose in one spot, but I often find I'm fighting it in a turn. When turning you are forced to add a bit of rudder so "bank and yankers" like me end up turning in a knife edge fashion. But in wind, the P3 flies like its a bigger plane, in higher wind you can see the AS3X overwork the tail a little bit to where it looks like its wobbling. With the 280mAh battery, I was getting flight times from about 5-6 minutes (I could probably push it longer, but I like to play on the safe side).


Micros are fun and neat in their "micro machine" like features but they are fragile. This not being an exception. The wing cabanes are held on very poorly, and with my model a little bit of wing flex caused them to pop out. The wings alone are built stiff, and better than other micros that had the thin, single layer foam plate-like wings but the cabanes just pop out. The foam nose cone, surely they could make a light weight rubber in red or something, these things always get destroyed. A couple of things I really did like was the "built-up" foam tail section with thick rudder and elevator which really add to their rigidity. The fuse doesn't flex or depress when I grab it. And the wheel pants are made of plastic, a huge fix in the constant ripping off of single sheet foam wheel pants from other models like the Polecat. The battery hatch is held on with magnets and there is a "thicker" foam base that the battery is held onto with velcro, which flexes, and I can see in a bout of heavy handedness could easily break in half. While the manual demonstrates mounting the battery on its side, I'm too worried that rocking, or quick jerky movements may make the battery come loose in flight, so I recommend mounting the battery flat. Battery compartment is a little tight, and the mount for the battery is velcro(hook and loop) on the narrow edge ( possible to wiggle loose with a 3D micro) so by mounting the velcro on the plastic casing on the broadest portion of the battery you shorten the lever arm, lower the center of gravity for battery and likely will keep the battery from wiggling loose. The landing gear is great, but its a micro make sure you fly in a place with smooth areas, or else you will get a nose-over, or land it in tall grass to lessen the blow.



Don't get this plane as your first micro, you will surely destroy it. It is a fun plane to wring out in a low to moderately windy day in a small area. And it will definitely be something to toss around in a pinch. I have a blast flying this, until of course I have to replace a nose cone because I like my planes looking nice all the time.
